Description

Prussia. 1892, small Wittenberg Memorial Medal, awarded 1894-1906, bronze casting, Av.: Bust of Kaiser Wilhelm II to the right, in the uniform of the Garde du Corps, with parade helmet and kürass, Rv.: under the symbolic star of Bethlehem the personified Religio with book, somewhat in the background the Wittenberg Castle Church. Donated on 30 October 1892 by Kaiser Wilhelm II in two sizes - both in bronze - for the guests of the inauguration of the renovated castle church in Wittenberg on 31 October on the occasion of the 375th anniversary of the Reformation. The large medals were intended for princes and other high dignitaries and officials, the small ones for the other guests. The medal was designed by the sculptor Prof. Reinhold Begas, cast in the Art Foundry Gladenbeck, Berlin-Friedrichshagen. 125 of the large medal and 3500 of the small ones were made.
