Imperial German Naval Officers' Banjo Shoulder Boards. A superb example of early 19th century craftsmanship featuring a liberal use of silver wire to create these visually stunning pair of shoulder boards. The boards feature silver wire crescents applied directly to silver tape backing. Large nickel silver fouled anchor devices and two golden rank pips are mounted to each board. Single gilt Imperial Naval buttons (attached to brass hooks) complete each board. Thin strands of silver-wire fringe decorate the side of each board. The undersides of the boards are backed with navy blue wool.
