Infantry Officer's Sword as absolute luxury edition. It was given from Klose from the Infantry Regiment No. 58 to Schlieper serving in the Pomeranian Fusilier Regiment No. 34. Damascus blade with etching and marker on blade root "ECHTER DAMASCENER M.D." for blade smith Max Dinger. Sword by Otto Mertens in Solingen.

The Dinger family is synonymous with the highest quality blades back to the 18th century. Max Dinger was probably the most famous Damascus blade smith in Solingen in the late 19th century. His family's trade survived through 2 war into todays time.

Klose was promoted to Lieutenant on January 27, 1900, serving in the 3. Posenschen IR-Nr. 58 (Glogau).

Schlieper was promoted to Lieutenant on January 27, 1900, but served in the Pommerschee Füsilier-Regiment Nr. 34 (Bromberg).

The 1908 rank list shows both serving the Pommersche Füsilier-Regiment Nr. 34 as Reserve Officers.   

The 1909 rank lost shows only Schlieper serving the Füsilierregiment in his reserve officer’s capacity. Klose left the service on May 6, 1909, but stood by in the Landwehrbezirk Bromberg in the 1. Aufgebot. He is still listed in the 1914 rank list with the national guard long service medal 2nd class.

One can assume that the sword was gifted on occasion of their mutual promotion to Lieutenant. They probably went to the same officers school.
